Spring Into Action for Tamarack!
Spring Into Action for Tamarack!

4/21/2020

First and foremost, we hope that you and your family and friends are well and staying safe during this very challenging time. Our staff expresses regularly how much they miss and are concerned for our pool patrons.

As you may be aware, Tamarack Aquatic Wellness Center is supported by patron usage fees, grants, and the generous donations of supporters like you. We closed the pool on March 17, 2020, due to the COVID-19 virus threat to both our patrons and staff. This action, of course, suspended our revenue from patron usage.

To survive this challenge, we have made efforts to reduce energy costs by shutting off the heat to the pool, emptying the hot tub and shutting off the heat to the building. We have minimal staff on board who are checking water chemistry and mechanical systems, monitoring Facebook, phone messages, and our website, and completing bookkeeping functions. Our board of directors continues to meet virtually to explore options for a sustainable future.

We have applied for the federal Small Business Administration (SBA)ís Paycheck Protection Program to try to secure a loan for payroll costs, utilities, and lease payments. If awarded, the loan will be forgiven if it is spent on the specified uses. However, these funds are limited and in high demand, as you may imagine. We also continue to actively research and apply for grant opportunities.

Traditionally, we have a spring fundraising effort to help us continue to offer scholarships and keep the pool running smoothly. We have made strides to update equipment and run more efficiently. This year is the 40th Anniversary of the facility, which Easter Seals originally built as a school and pool for special needs students. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant features of the pool and our warmer water have made it a unique and much needed wellness facility for Lane County residents. This spring, it is even more important that we reach out for donation assistance.

To encourage more charitable giving in 2020, the recently enacted government stimulus bill (the "CARES Act") provides some additional tax relief for donors, making it easier to support nonprofit organizations in need and save at the same time.

We would greatly appreciate any financial assistance you are able and inclined to give to Tamarack Aquatic Wellness Center. Our hope and intention is to reopen as soon as the Governor allows us to do so, and we will take whatever measures necessary in our scheduling and operations to maintain a safe environment for our patrons and staff... but we need the support of our generous donors to make this possible.

There are two easy ways to give to Tamarack: you can mail in a donation or you can click on the big blue button on our homepage to donate online through PayPal.

Thank you for your consideration and please feel free to call if you have any questions.

I am not on site, but I am available on my personal cell phone at 541-914-0254.

Be well and be safe!
