What is fibromyalgia? Learn the signs, symptoms, causes, methods of treatment and more during the seventh annual Fibromyalgia Awareness Three-Day Event on May 4, 5, & 6th. The event is free and open to all health care providers, patients, caregivers, family and the public. 

  • Attend Thursday’s forum with health experts providing the most up-to-date treatment options at the Northwest Community Credit Union community room
  • Try a creative therapy class at Friday’s open house at Willamette Medical Center
  • Participate in some therapeutic water movement classes on Saturday at Tamarack Aquatic Center

Thursday, May 4th - 6:45 pm to 8:30 pm

Opening the event is a forum of medical and wellness experts who will present the latest health information on Thursday, May 4, from 6:45-8:30 pm at the Northwest Community Credit Union community room, located at 545 E. 8th Ave. (next to the new federal courthouse). The expert panel includes:

Friday, May 5th - 9:45 am to 4 pm

Alternative therapies will be offered during an open house on Friday, May 5th, from 9:45 am to 4:00 pm at Willamette Medical Center, 2401 River Road, in the community room (lower level). Four classes of supporting and alternative pain management therapies will be offered. An herbal tea party, an empanada lunch and 15-minute neck and shoulder massages will be held during the day. Classes include:

9:45-11:00 am — Yoga Nidra with Katie Fabian, Certified Yoga Nidra Instructor
11:15-12:30 pm — Music Therapy with Danielle Crowe, MT-BC
1:15-2:30 pm — Art Therapy with Grace Fletcher, MA, ATR
2:45-4:00 pm — Meditation and Mindfulness with Teri Strong, PhD, Licensed Psychologist

Saturday, May 6th - 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm

Tamarack Aquatic Center, 3575 Donald St., Suite No. 300, hosts a special aquatic session on Saturday afternoon, May 6th, from 3 to 5 pm. Axis Physical Therapy & Rehab will begin with 20 minutes of water adaptation exercises. This will be followed with 40 minutes of Ai Chi, a slow-movement exercise based on Tai Chi done in shoulder-depth, 92-degree saltwater for exercise and therapeutic benefits. Lena Houston-Davisson, MPT, will lead the Ai Chi class. During the water movement classes, 15-minute Watsu treatments will be offered. Guests may sign up for Watsu at the pool entrance.
